Beyond the Sand Dune (2017)

‘Beyond the Sand Dune’, a historical literary novel set in 9th century Arabia, is a tale that combines romance, intrigue and political drama. It follows the colourful lives of four characters which fatefully converge towards one decisive moment in history that will have repercussions for centuries to come.


Amel, a young housewife is raped in the middle of the night by a lone traveller at a water-well and is reported to the authorities by an inebriated witness. Overnight, her life is turned upside down as she is accused of adultery and faces the prospect of being sentenced to death by stoning. Unknown to her, the case is being used to set in motion a political plot.

Written with compassion and humour, the readers are transported to old Arabia as they follow the vivid and interesting lives of the four characters. Despite the gravitas of the central theme, the book is a pleasant read with plenty of content, providing a fascinating and at times humorous insight into life during that era.

Based on true events

The inhabitants of a paradise island are evicted from their native land as the result of a conspiracy between two of the world's most powerful nations. Without money nor support, they are dumped on a strange land and endure terrible sufferings while their plight is kept hidden to the outside world.

The novel tells the story of one particular islander, Serge Bisson and how his life and dreams are irrevocably broken by this incredibly shocking crime against his people.
